Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Astoria, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across New York run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Astoria is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Astoria peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Trying this new Indian restaurant was such a great surprise! Everything was so flavorful, rich and delicious. We loved the cozy ambiance and the overall vibe of the place. We ordered the chicken samosas, lamb biryani, chicken tikka masala, cheese naan and mango lassi. Every dish was packed with flavor and the cheese naan paired perfectly with the tikka masala. We enjoyed everything we ordered and can’t wait to come back the next time we’re in the area. Highly recommend!

I stopped in for the dine-in lunch special on a Friday and honestly couldn’t understand why more people weren’t there. For about $13, plus $1.50 for a mango lassi, the value is amazing. The service was fast, warm, and attentive from start to finish. Water refills came quickly, the staff was friendly, and everything felt fresh and made with care. The lamb samosa was a 5/5 for me. You could really tell it was fresh, with great flavor and texture. I also tried the butternut squash soup, which had a nice spice to it and felt comforting but still flavorful. For an entrΓ©e, I’d definitely recommend the chicken tikka masala. The sauce was rich and satisfying, and I especially appreciated the quality of the chicken. Affordable, fresh, friendly, and genuinely worth returning to. I’ll definitely be coming back and hope more people discover this spot.

Great new halal Indian restaurant. Nice and clean, casual but also authentic vibe. We ordered from the 4-course prix fixe menu. Samosas, chicken vindaloo, shrimp vindaloo, lamb curry, paneer makhani, and naan. The vindaloo base was spicy and delicious, especially with the naan bread. The lamb curry was tender and flavorful. The paneer dish was also amazing. We also got gulab jamun for dessert, warm and sweet. Great service and pricing was great.

I had their lunch specials that is served with Papadum (lentil chips, tasted amazing), Lamb Samosa, Chicken Curry, Rice, and I got complimentary roti. Everything is tasty and the portions are great! The lamb samosa filling was thick, the Papadum was crispy. Chicken curry was comforting. The servers are hospitable, and they played calming indian music so just nice vibe. Really great option around the area. Highly recommend.

The original Seva staff are BACK!!!! They’re responsible for Seva getting its reputation back in the day, and now they opened this restaurant and it is phenomenal. The lamb samosa is exactly like the lamb spring rolls I used to love at Seva and honestly even better. The pakora and samosa chaat was also very excellent. Eating the chicken tikka masala and butter chicken brought me back to the good old days of Seva when I had it for the first time. The mango lassi ACTUALLY tastes like mango and not just sour yogurt. It’s unbelievably good and I would recommend for sure. Being brutally honest, Seva has dramatically dropped in quality over the years and it is because the original staff had left. Now that this restaurant exists AND it’s run by the original staff, there is no reason to go to Seva anymore and it is only 1 block down. As I’ve tried dozens of Indian restaurant all around the 5 boroughs, this is my favorite by far!
